Alinging with a Better Future: KOF’s Contribution to the SDGs

How KOF Aligns with Global Goals: A Look at the SDGs

Real Stories. Local Action. Global Impact.

At the Kingsley Obiukwu Foundation (KOF), we know that change doesn’t always have to come from big governments or global conferences. Sometimes, it starts with a bag of rice, a football match, or a simple act of kindness in your community.

That’s why everything we do is built around one powerful idea:” Ka Anyi Ga N’ihu” Let’s Move Forward.

In 2024, we took big strides forward, not just for our communities in Nnewi South and beyond, but also in contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These global goals guide efforts worldwide to end poverty, fight inequality, promote peace, and build a more sustainable future.

Here’s how KOF’s local efforts connected with global impact:

1. No Poverty (SDG 1)

We tackled poverty where it hits hardest: on the ground through the Unity Cup, Food Outreach, and Marathon program, we distributed more than ₦5 million in prizes and support, helping young athletes and entrepreneurs fund their education and small businesses. Events like these also created jobs for vendors, transporters, medical practitioners, security agents, and volunteers offering many families a needed economic boost. Winning the Unity Cup didn’t just make us proud. It helped me register for school this year,” said Chika, a player from Ukpor Town.

2. Zero Hunger (SDG 2)

Nobody should have to go to bed hungry. That’s why our “Food Support Outreach Program” delivered 5,000 bags of rice to elderly and vulnerable people in 10 towns. What made it special? A transparent, fair distribution process led by youth and student volunteers. It wasn’t just food, it was hope.

3. Quality Education (SDG 4)

Education is the most powerful tool for long-term change.  In 2024, we began laying the groundwork to expand scholarships and adult learning programs. We’re investing in skills that empower individuals and uplift entire families.

4. Decent Work & Economic Growth (SDG 8)

From job creation at our events to training sessions and youth empowerment, we’re doing more than talking about the economy we’re building. During the Unity Cup and Unity Marathon, hundreds of people, security officers, cooks, vendors, and artisans earned money while contributing to something meaningful.

5. Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10)

KOF is built on the idea that everyone deserves a seat at the table no matter their gender, background, or hometown. In January 2025, Afigbo Esther, a young woman from Plateau State, won first place in our Unity Marathon. She went home with ₦1 million, inspiring girls across Nigeria and reminding us all that opportunity should know no boundaries. We also made sure elderly participants were recognized with special awards.

6. Sustainable Cities & Communities (SDG 11)

Unity isn’t just a word, it’s something we live out loud. The Unity Cup and Unity Marathon & Festival brought together thousands of people in peace and celebration. Families watched their children play. Neighbors danced to traditional music. Leaders from different towns worked hand-in-hand.

That’s what a sustainable community looks like.

7. Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16)

Peace is a priority and we worked hard for it. The collaboration with local security teams, vigilante groups, and law enforcement, made sure every event was safe, peaceful, and inclusive. In a time where division is too common, KOF is proud to be a space where unity leads.

From Local Hands to Global Goals

KOF’s strength lies in its deep community roots but our vision is undeniably global. By aligning with these SDGs, we are building a model of development that is scalable, replicable, and sustainable.

Whether it’s a bag of rice, a football match, or a cultural dance, every action contributes to a more united, and hopeful Africa.
